Our Story

How it all started...

Lincoln Methodist Church has a rich history of 180 plus years as a Methodist Church seeking to Love God and Love People. There is a rich spiritual heritage that flows from this church that has influenced family trees and community life for over a century. What a beautiful story LMC has that is evidenced by lives transformed in the power of Jesus Christ and an ever-growing legacy of making disciples from generation to generation.

As many churches in the bible belt region of the United States, this church dates back more than a hundred years. First named Patton's chapel, this church was founded in 1841, but the present name, Lincoln UMC, was not given until 1886 when the church was moved to the current site. The sanctuary building was built in 1887 with additions and repairs added on throughout the years.
Below is a historical remembrance letter to the church on its homecoming day on June 22, 1973. It captures the humble beginnings of Lincoln Church and how the life of the church had come to be at that date and time.

Throughout this journey as the Body of Christ, we have entered specific seasons. One season was becoming Lincoln United Methodist in 1968. In this time, we continued in the faithfulness of God as we had the many years before and saw The Lord Jesus used this church to reveal himself in Lincoln. In July 2022 Lincoln United Methodist Church (LUMC) began an intentional and intense time of prayer and discernment concerning disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church (UMC). The entrance into this new season was prompted by the conviction to pursue the question: “What is God calling our church to be?”  This discernment process was transparent and open to all who chose to participate through daily personal study and prayer using Companions in Christ: The Way of Discernment and a two-hour group period every Sunday afternoon to discern God’s heart for our family of faith.
On December 18, 2022, at the Church Charge Conference, the vote to disaffiliate passed and our congregation voted to join the Global Methodist Church. On May 11, 2023, we officially joined the Global Methodist Church, became the owner of all church property under our name, and became Lincoln Methodist Church, a Global Methodist Church. On May 14, 2023, the first Sunday of this new beginning, we received Rev. Bandon Lazarre and his family as Lincoln Methodist Church pastor and family.
Overall, this church is one that has deep roots in the community of Lincoln. With that comes many hours of worshiping the lord our god, countless acts of loving service to the members of this city, and a strong foundation to reach higher, stretch further, and grow in strength within. We pray that you will join us as we continue to write history, not so much our own, but the history of the stories of lives transformed by the majestic and powerful good news of Jesus Christ among us!

Expanding the vision...

Today, everything we do flows from a deep understanding that our mission, the core reason we exist, is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who LOVE GOD and LOVE OTHERS by leading people to GROW INTO GOD, GROW INTO FREEDOM, GROW INTO PURPOSE, & MAKE A DIFFERENCE. As disciples who make disciples, we understand that a disciple is a person who GROWS in the way we LOVE GOD & LOVE OTHERS as we Worship Passionately, Love Extravagantly, Witness Boldly, & Pray Fervently… MORE & MORE!

Ephesians 4:15 “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will GROW to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament GROWS and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."

Where we are headed...

The long, fruitful heritage that comes from the roots of this congregation reflects a strong connection with the community around it. Being one of the first organizations planted in this city, LMC is deeply woven into the fabric of Lincoln, AL. Our identity as a foundational member of this city drives the heartbeat of this church to reach out into our community and lead people to GROW into a life-changing, life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ!

We exist to see the people of this city to GROW into God, Freedom, Purpose, and live daily Making a Difference in their location and relationships. We invite you to experience how God will GROW you to make a difference when the focus is simple and clear!
